Research Scholars Program
The Research Scholars Program provides early research opportunities to Honors College students. Funded primarily through donor support, Research Scholars serve as a research assistants to identified faculty mentors. Some of the funds specifically support underrepresented groups of students in research including students eligible for federal work study, students from urban high schools and students admitted to the Honors College through the campus-based admissions process.

- Schoenl Research Scholars Addressing Dire Needs Overseas
- Skocpol Research Scholars
Eligibility
- Member of Honors College in good standing
- Willing to work ~10 hrs/week throughout the academic year
- Priority will be given to 2nd year students
- PA recipients may only apply for Schoenl award
- Some funding specifically for research on sustainability, social justice and political science
How to Apply (AY 24-25)
To apply, Honors College students should complete the online application no later than June 28. Login via your MSU Google account.
The application requires:
- Personal Statement: Describe any research experience you have; your reason for pursuing the position and the research/scholarly interests you hope to pursue as part of the program.
- MSU Activities and Accomplishments
- Name and Email of Faculty Recommender
- Optional: You will have an opportunity to signal the faculty member(s) with whom you’d like to work if they are available.
