Join Annie Tan, New York educator, activist, and storyteller. Hailing from Manhattan’s Chinatown, Tan is writing a memoir chronicling her journey as someone who isn’t fluent in Cantonese or Toisan. Her work has been featured in The Huffington Post, NPR’s The Moth Radio Hour, and more.
Tan’s work also centers on the 1982 killing of her cousin Vincent Chin in Detroit. She has written extensively about this case, as well as on Asian family histories and the varying connections between anti-Black and Asian violence.
Tan’s writings and activism are at the intersection of Asian American and African American histories.
