2026-2027 UGS200H Course Descriptions

Honors Research Seminars are designed for first- and second-year Honors College students. These classes provide an opportunity to engage in research with MSU faculty members.

The seminars are listed as UGS 200H in the Course Search on the Student Information System. Returning Honors College students should submit an override request via this form.

Honors Research Seminar Benefits

Benefits of these courses include:

  • Opportunities for hands-on work on cutting-edge research projects, under the supervision of MSU faculty members. Students who gain this experience are well-situated to find research opportunities in the future.
  • Small class sizes, typically with students from a wide variety of majors.
  • An opportunity to present at the annual University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum in April. Many seminars also offer presentation and publication opportunities in other forums, both inside and outside the university.
  • Seminars count as one Honors experience and, with the approval of an Honors College academic specialist/advisor, may count toward Integrative Studies requirements.

Important Note

The three units and one Honors experience earned by a research seminar only apply to the fall semester schedule. Students will not see UGS 200H on their spring schedule, even though they will still regularly engage with their faculty and classmates throughout the spring semester.

This course is graded as pass/no pass and earned after the spring semester has been completed.
