A message to our Honors College community

Eustace-Cole Hall - MSU Honors College

Dear Honors College Students, Staff, and Faculty,

Please join me first in pausing here to bring attention to your breath, so we can gather energy, care, and strength to send to the victims, their families, and everyone who is suffering in the wake of the devastating shooting that took place on our campus yesterday evening. Our hearts are broken.

All classes (in-person or remote) are canceled for the rest of the week. We will be on modified operations today (2/14) and tomorrow (2/15). This means faculty and staff deemed non-critical may use their judgment on deciding to engage in any workplace activities, so long as they do not interfere with emergency operations. We will resume university operations Thursday (2/16), although there will be no classes until Monday (2/20).

The university continues to update information here. Below are additional support services for students, faculty, and staff.

Resources for Students

Starting today, MSU Counseling and Psychiactric Services (CAPS) is offering crisis counseling will offer virtual listening spaces and 24/7 virtual crisis support.

Counselors are also available at Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road, East Lansing. Free, confidential crisis counseling is available 24/7. Students can call (517) 355-8270 and press “1” at the prompt.

The Honors College is home to the Mental Health Collaborative, a student-run space that focuses on encouraging regular time for self-care. Please watch for upcoming programming. We are thankful for their leadership in our community.

Resources for Faculty and Staff

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) has counseling services and programming available for staff and faculty throughout the week and beyond. You may visit https://eap.msu.edu/ to make an appointment or view their support services.

In addition, the #iteachmsu commons at Michigan State University will offer faculty resources for teaching and learning during and after tragedies. Please refer to their materials and website at https://iteach.msu.edu/.

As we continue to navigate this difficult period, I am grateful for the resilience and care each one of you brings to the MSU community.

With grief and sorrow,
