First-generation students are the first in their immediate families to pursue the completion of a four-year college degree.

The First-Generation Honors Association (FGHA) is an student organization dedicated to assisting students in their transition to the Honors College and Academic Scholars Program, fostering continued success in college.

Michigan State University TRIO Student Support Services provides academic assistance, career counseling, personal advising, and academic support for first-generation college students, students who come from low-income backgrounds, and disabled students.
These students may face unique challenges in college because of educational or economic circumstances.
